Thanksgiving Party Poppers Using Empty Toilet Paper Tubes

Each year at Thanksgiving our family from far and near gathers to Greene Acres.  Our Greene Acres Barn tagline is "Come home to the country...where memories are made." And every year, since Roger built our event barn on our wild acres, we've made a heart-full of memories at our family gatherings.

There are so many of us that gather, but I still like to give a little gift to my loved ones. Making a gift for 75 who are a range of ages is a task! These poppers were quite a hit and the children and grandchildren that were near got in on the fun of making them and we made even more memories! Everyone from young to old loved them!

WHAT YOU NEED:
Empty Toilet Paper Tubes
If you want giant-size poppers you can use empty paper towel tubes or cut these in half to make 2.

Keep in mind the prizes inside will need to not be longer or wider than the tube itself. For instance if you wanted to put pencils inside as a prize you may need to use the longer paper towel tube. I also bought some mini wind-up toys and some of them were too fat to fit inside the tube.

WHAT YOU NEED:
Tissue paper

One 9 x12 piece per tube. You could get by with less if you are scrimper and saver. I rolled mine over a few times instead of just once. You choose your color. There are so many fun tissues to choose from! I chose a butternut squash color! The tissue is used to wrap the stuffed cardboard tube hold in the contents and of course hide it so what's inside is a surprise!

WHAT YOU NEED:
Ribbon or Yarn
Two 10" pieces of ribbon or yarn will tie off the twisted ends of the wrapped tube with all the surprises stuffed inside. It is fun to use the curling ribbon to add pizzaz to your poppers

WHAT YOU NEED:
Sticker Labels

You can add a HAPPY THANKSGIVING sticker label. It makes it easy to purchase them. I printed my own with vintage Thanksgiving graphics. It took paper, a color desktop printer, scissors, glue stick and of course extra time. Print, trim out, and adhere to your wrapped popper with an Elmer's glue stick. You can find free Thanksgiving themed clip-art graphics to use to make your own sticker labels here.

Absolutely love this idea! I can see doing this for many special occasions where family and friends gather! Simple and economical AND creative. I plan on making these and individualize them for each person. That being said, I’ll have to write their name on each one. I can see them generating fun conversations and cherished memories.
